How to Pack Fragile Items for Shipping
- Choose the right box: Select a new, sturdy box that is slightly larger than the item to allow for cushioning.
- Wrap each item individually: Use materials like bubble wrap, foam sheets, or packing paper to protect each fragile item.
- Cushion the item: Wrap the item with a minimum of 3″ of air-cellular cushioning material.
- Fill void spaces: Use packing peanuts, crumpled newspaper, or other void fill to prevent movement.
- Secure the item: Ensure the wrapped item fits tightly within the box, with no empty spaces.
- Label the box: Clearly mark the box with “FRAGILE” to alert handlers to handle it with care.
- Seal the box: Use strong packing tape to seal the box securely along all edges and openings.
- Consider a box-in-box method: Place the inner box inside a larger outer box for extra protection.
- Add a return address: Include a return address on the item and inside the package.
